As in the past, the wine is 100% Wente Clone Chardonnay from the westernmost part of Clos Pepe. Picked a bit riper than the super-lean 2005, this wine brings the ‘Homage’ program back to its earlier days—a bit more richness, 100% malolactic fermentataion, a bit softer and richer, but with all of that glorious structure and food-friendliness that Clos Pepe Chardonnays always exhibit. As always, fermented in neutral french oak and small stainless casks, lees stirred and put up to age for 11 months in stainless. Another wine for the cellar—this young, vibrant and complex white shows off the mineral and high-acid style that we love. Aromas of green apple, pear and hints of pineapple/mango tropicality. The medium bodied, high-mineral style perfectly matches white cheeses, oysters, sushi, and dishes that have high fat content to balance the beautiful acid structure. Expect this wine to improve between 3-7 years in the cellar. Only 5 barrels made, or 120 cases. 13.4% alcohol, 3.18 pH and 7.5 g/l titratable acidity.
